How we review tools

We give a score only after hands-on testing, every scored review shows when we tested the tool and when we checked its prices, and affiliate commissions never change a verdict or a score.

A tool review should help you decide whether a tool is worth your time and money. This page explains who writes Humanopia reviews, how we test tools, how the score is set, how we date prices, and how we earn money from some links.

Who writes our reviews

Humanopia is an independent publication. Tool reviews are written and signed by their author, and the byline appears at the top of each review.

Reviews are separate from our automated news, which is signed by the Humanopia Editorial Team. Our editorial standards explain how news is produced and labeled.

What a full review includes

Full reviews follow the same structure, so you can find what you need quickly.

  • Verdict. A short summary of what the tool does well, where it falls short and whether we recommend it, with the score beside it.
  • Key takeaways. The main points, in a list you can scan.
  • Who it is for. The kinds of people the tool suits.
  • Full review. What we found when we used the tool, and what it costs.
  • Alternatives. Other tools in the same category, in case this one is not the right fit.

Some tool pages are not full reviews yet. These are first looks, explained under How the score is set.

How we test

We test a tool by using it ourselves, hands-on, for the kind of work it is built for. We judge it on what we see in our own use, not on the maker’s descriptions.

We look at what matters to someone deciding whether to use the tool: how useful it is, how good its results are, how easy it is to use, what it costs and what happens to the information you put into it. Which of these matters most depends on what the tool is for.

How the score is set

We give a tool a Humanopia score out of 10 only after we have tested it hands-on.

The score reflects the verdict. It sums up our overall judgment of the tool in one number, so you can compare tools at a glance. A score is a summary, not the whole story: a tool with a lower score can still be the right choice if it does the one thing you need. Read the score together with the verdict and the rest of the review.

Every scored review shows the date we tested the tool and the date we last checked its prices, so you can see how current the review is.

A tool review without a score is a first look. A first look introduces the tool, but we have not finished testing it hands-on, so it has no score.

Affiliate commissions never change a verdict or a score.

Prices and the date we checked them

Each review shows the date we last checked the tool’s prices.

AI tools change their prices often. Plans get renamed, usage limits move, and features shift from one plan to another. The price you pay can also depend on where you live, taxes and how often you are billed.

Treat our prices as a snapshot from the date shown. Before you pay, check the current price on the maker’s website.

Affiliate links and how we earn money

Affiliate commissions are how Humanopia earns money from some of its links. Some of our links to tools are affiliate links: if you sign up or buy through one, we may earn a commission. Commissions never change a verdict or a score.

When a review has an affiliate button, a short note next to it says that we earn a commission from some links.

When tools change

AI tools change quickly. New models arrive, features come and go, and terms and data policies get rewritten. A review describes the tool as we found it on the date we tested it, so check that date as well as the date we checked prices.

If you spot something in a review that is out of date or wrong, please tell us at contact@humanopia.com.

For tool makers

If you make an AI tool and want us to know about it, email contact@humanopia.com or use our contact page. We are glad to hear about new tools, major updates, pricing changes and mistakes in a review.

We decide independently what to review and when, so contacting us does not guarantee a review or a score.
